Three years of intense work and planning bears fruit in 1994, as California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) becomes a reality. The CSUMB planning team accomplishes the transfer of 1,365 acres of Fort Ord for the establishment of the university; receives a check for $15 million to fund its first two years of operation; hires academic deans and a president; evaluates 6,000 faculty applications and hires its first faculty; and accepts applications for its first crop of students.
