The first academic year in CSUMB's history sees students move into their brand-new homes, oftentimes with the paint still drying. An Outward Bound excursion is followed by the beginning of classes—sometimes held wherever instructors could find room—and an onslaught from the national media, followed by a visit from the President of the United States. (What? You mean he doesn't speak at everybody's school?) Soon, classes are in full swing, and students are active contributors in the creation of a flexible curriculum and university that would come to shape their lives in ways they could never imagine.
